Why does Meiosis only happen in cells?

cells are the only type of cells that require haploid number of chromosomes. The halved number of chromosomes allow the cell to combine with other haploid cells to form a diploid zygote that can become an offspring, this is essential for variation in offspring. No other cells require halved number of chromosomes so only cells undergo Meiosis.
