Why do so many western people like monarchy's but they hate dictatorships?

There are very few absolute monarchies left. Most are constitutional monarchies in which the monarch plays a mostly ceremonial role. Then you've got North Korea, which claims to be a peoples' democratic republic, but is headed by an absolute hereditary monarch of the Kim dynasty.
